Bella: What dance classes should I take to get on my school dance team?
I’m a beginner but the odds of me getting on the dance team are not to bad. I’ve never really danced and the auditions for dance team are in two months, but I think with the right classes I could do it! I just need to know what dance classes to take for the kind of dancing I would need for the school team. I’m also going to try and take private lessons, I’m going to work super hard!

I would recommend Jazz since Jazz basically teaches you all the jumps, turns, and things you need to know so you can be a dancer, I would also recommend Ballet cause if you can do Ballet you can do anything in dance but Ballet takes a lot of time to master so I would recommend Jazz cause of you short time limit and since it teaches you most of the techniques. Also stretch alot it’ll help you alot! In Jazz you’ll learn the different leaps, calypso, axles, fouttees, turns, etc(:
I would definitely suggest doing the private classes. I took 4 private classes before I auditioned for my school dance team and it helped sooooooooo much. I learned many new things. I was already a dancer but the privates will help you too 🙂
I would suggest a jazz or pom class. Those are the routines my dance team does most of the time. We also do hip hop but that is easy to learn when you are already on the team.
If your privates you should specifically tell the instructor that you want to learn skills for your school dance team. You should learn pirouettes and leaps at least.
Good luck I hope this helps 🙂 (p.s. when you are auditioning make sure you always smile and have positive atitude. Don’t get frustrated and never give up)

Im on my school dance team and you should really take jazz, modern, and lyrical.Answer by Gaga’s Little Monster
You’re completely underestimating the difficulty to get into a dance team. Dance team members are for moderately experienced dancers (you generally need at least 3 years of experience, although you might be able to get away with just 2 years if you’re lucky).
You might think it’s easy, but it’s not. Dance teams are competitive teams. Which means you compete in dance competitions and perform a lot. Which also means that you have to be good.
At the typical dance team audition, you must be able to know how to do the right splits, heel stretch, grand battemente, grand jete, and double pirouette or double jazz turn. You might also be epected to perform other moves, but the ones I listed are an absolute must. There’s a relatively large chance that you’ll have to perform choreography too.
And must I mention how competitive it is to get into a dance team? LOTS of girls try out. Some of them are extremely good, some of them suck, and some of them have little to no experience but think they have a good chance of getting in (that would be you).
I know you said that you’ll take dance classes and work hard, but two months is simply not enough time. I mean, sure, you can still take the dance classes and try out if you want, but I doubt you’ll get in.
I highly recommend you take ballet, jazz, and lyrical for at least 2 years before auditioning for the dance team. I also highly recommend you watch dance team performances on YouTube to see how it’s really like.Answer by Libby
I would definately recommend jazz and then you might also want to take a modern and hip hop class. Even though your a beginner I think you will make it if you put your mind to it and practice a lot you can do it!!! The biggest thing is to stretch everyday and that will help even more!!! Good luck
