Answer by lissage discrimination is against the law, not to say it doesn’t happen. But it is. It is the big “illegal” question. If you don’t look old, no one cares about your actual age.
At 37 some people look great, some look worn down. Depends.
You can start anything at 37. Anything. It’s never too late. Except for fields that have a long long lead time, and then it’s not late, but you have to weight the options of being seriously old when you have entry level skills. Like doctors and lawyers. What you’re thinking when you say “twenty year old careers” I don’t know. If you want to do something that involves a certain “look”, then yeah–maybe you will face discrimination. Still illegal, but discrimination.
Other than that, why not go for it? Whatever you want to do. If you don’t now, you’ll have wanted to, and then when you’re sixty-ish, you’ll have this unresolved stuff.
I say, look at what you really want, and then just do it. You can do anything if you want it bad enough.
Answer by Doctor Dethemployers aren’t allowed to discriminate by age, but you would have to be willing to accept the starting pay level for someone with no experience, which is typically a younger person than you – they won’t pay you more than they feel the position is worth, just because you’re older.Answer by Furball
would you be willing to work for the same entry-level pay that a 22 or 23 year old kid fresh out of college would be willing to work for?Answer by kadel
I don’t know what your background is. There is a shortage of lpns, so there are lots of opportunities there. Some people transfer business skills and become insurance adjusters in their 30s. Apply for civil service jobs, they cannot discriminate on the basis of age.
