Summer: What can you get with an economics degree?
My husband has changed his mind many times on what degree he can get and now he has chosen Economics because it is the fastest. I’m curious about what types of jobs a person with an Economics degree can obtain? Careers?

Many jobs in business.
If he is a great student, he can do anything with it. Question is what kind of work does he want to do and the sooner he starts doing it the better no matter what the degree. Remember this is just the start of his journey. He has a long way to go and many decisions to make. Work is always the best education.
Good luck.
Answer by Rob DI’m speculating, but it’s probably a field with little opportunity without an advanced degree, as most positions would be academic or advisory in nature. He may wish to major in business and minor in economics.Answer by imisidro
I have both a bachelors and masters degree in economics.
The options are varied
– you can work in a bank or any private company where you can advance without needing a graduate degree
– international organizations such as United Nations or World Bank where you need an advanced degree to get an analyst or better position (MA is the minimum requirement but PhD is better)
– think tanks and research institutions where an advanced degree is definitely an advantage and desired
– academics where a PhD degree is essential
– government where an advanced degree is also very useful and desirable
I have worked in private companies including banks doing economic research, strategic planning in an insurance company, and did market research. I have also worked in government doing policy studies. I have also worked in international organizations such as United Nations and World Bank where pay and benefits are really good.
The options are plentiful.
