she should have reported these scams to www.ic3.gov
OMG! It does happen! I always wondered if anybody was dumb enough to actually fall for that.
Nothing you can do about it – you could fly to Nigeria, find the guy and break his arm – that’s about it.
Answer by LoneStarThere is nothing she can do, except learn a lesson (hopefully) and maybe start using her brain. The money is long gone and the “Nigerians” have moved on to another “patsy”, and will never be found.
She WILL be held responsible (by law) for paying back the bank—it was her dumb mistake—not theirs, so she might as well start paying them back, cause she would lose in a court case.
Answer by Ghana BananaShe cant do anything, she is responsible for the full value of that $ 4000 since she cashed it and will be investigated. For her defense she should keep copies of every email she received from these people to show she was duped but that wont negate that she will owe the money.Answer by Lyn G
Nothing, but to have hopefully learned from it. She really should report it to the police so she has a police report to prove her story when she has to explain everything over and over to everyone.
She will have to give back the money to the bank, as it WAS a bad check and the bank wants their money back and she did cash that check, an long with any charges and fess that will apply. She also needs to be ready because they can bring criminal charges against her, if she can not prove that she was scammed. But, she will most probably not see her money back again, at all.
