freetobeme1018: What can you claim on used clothing donated to charities?
I want to be able to claim what I can on used clothing. Some has only been worn once and looks like new. It isn’t expensive clothing, mostly. A few pricier things but mostly inexpensive.

I used it’s deductible by turbo tax. It was very easy and great. The only thing is itemize exactly how many of what item you gave and what condition it was.
See this link for average values from Goodwill.Answer by Ken Adams
There are many ways to “guesstimate” the values of your clothing. I think the people above me cited great resources, but please consider this also.
1. The organization you donated to MUST be qualified under section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code … such as Goodwill.
2. Please document the details of you donation – this is pretty simple. List date, your and organization name, description of items & quantity. This is especially important just in case the IRS want to audit your return (My personal experience is that my clients with larger donations compared to their income have tenancies to get audited.)
Lastly, the # of miles you drive to drop your donation is also deductible at 14cents per mile (not 44.5 cents for business).
Good luck!
