I am an older brother, and I am quite protective of my sister who is starting to date and talking to boys on the phone. How can I ensure she will be ok, while giving her some space?

When I started dating, my brother, who is actually a year younger than I am, told me I could always tell him if a guy gave me any grief. It seemed sort of funny because he was younger, but I thought it was cool that he was letting me know he’d be on my side without overstepping his bounds. If you just let your sister know you’re willing to step in if anyone treats her badly, she’ll probably laugh it off to your face. But I guarantee you she’ll appreciate it. You’re a good brother.

I agree with baxter. I had an older brother who was protective of me, too. It was the most horrible thing, SOMETIMES. That’s part of life. It was also the greatest thing EVER!! My brother told me that if any boy ever messed with me that he would take care of him. I laughed at him and said drop it. Then when I had a problem with some jerk, He was the first person I went to. She probably knows your there for her, but reinforce the idea then back off. She’ll love you more for it.

You are a good brother, but you also have to give your sister an opportunity to make her own choices. watch her but from a distance . If she needs your help she will tell you.
