Shirly S: What bible story demonstrates that people do not appreciate what they have until they lose it?
I am trying to get a point across to my daughter, and i am having trouble finding a bible passage for her to read that explains people do not appreciate what they have until they finally lose it. Does anyone know a specific bible story? Thank you.

Alright, well if she is any older than the age of ten, then the bible won’t mean jack shoot to her. Let her learn by experience, that’s the best way. My parents tell me stuff all the time, and untill I actually do it and think to myself “oh, thats what they meant” I usually ignore them.
Matthew 18:12-14
Try this. Parable of the Lost Lamb. The Shepard loses his lamb and forsaking the safety of all others goes in search for it.Answer by ron971
Try Luke 15:11-32, the Parable of the Prodigal (extravigantly wasteful) Son.
The story is about a young man who thinks he doesn’t need to be held back by his family anymore and decides to strike out on his own. He asks his father for his inheritance and his father agrees. The boy leaves home, wastes his entire fortune, ends up slopping pigs for a living (not exactly what his Jewish parents had in mind for him, I’m sure) and being miserable.
He finally swallows his pride and heads back home to beg his father for a job, any job, even the most humble job on the family farm. What happens next is surprising.
