: What are you allowed to attach your bike to?
I spend a lot of time in Germany, and when I get back I go a little crazy. Right now I reeeeally want to bike everywhere, but the problem is I don’t live in a bike friendly area at all. As in, massive hills and traffic. But if I were to bike to local grocery stores or thrift stores, where would I be able to lock my bike? There sure aren’t any bike racks… Are there laws prohibiting different things? What’s recommended?

Street sign, parking meter, fence, anything you can find. Who needs a “bike rack” to lock up a bicycle? I forgot…around a small to medium sized tree. It’s the STREET – it’s public domain.
forgiveness beats permission
easier to get too
most of the time you don;t need it

Like the old guy said, just find a pole and lock. If the business complains, you complain right back at the lack od parking for your vehicle. I often find myself parking on handicap signs. Just make sure you aren’t a hindrance on any kind of traffic.
