I appreciate the help and the fact that many of you have pointed out that some aspects can be pros for some and cons for others. That’s definitely something to take into consideration for my target audience.

Well it is going to vary a great deal. This will depend a great deal on age of the single mother. Teenage pregnancy has increased as well as single teen moms.

Now, I was a single mother. I got pregnant at 16 and had my daughter at 17. I have not seen the biological father since I was 2 months along. I am now 21, married, and expecting my 2nd child.

My husband will say that in the pros department I knew what I wanted, I was more mature than most girls he dated, and I was more loyal and trustworthy (being hurt can make people more sensitive to others feelings).

On the negative end: I didn’t trust him for months. I was determined he wanted sex and I just felt like he would harm my daughter.

1. You know she has put out in the past – the child is evidence enough of that.

2. She can’t obsess. She has kids to deal with and can’t spend all your time worrying about what you’re doing and how often you see your friends.

Other than that, I don’t see much difference in dating single mothers and single non-mothers.

One con is the amount of women out there that get a new boyfriend and automatically make him the new “daddy”
I know of many, but one example is:
My mate who has been with a girl for 3 months…. 1 month into the relationship she HAD to move out of the place she was living and told him she had no where else to go, so would take her daughter to stay in a women’s shelter… of course he could not let that happen so promptly arranged to move out of his flat (with the boys) and move into a house for him, her and the daughter. (we later found out she had only had a fight with her mum and didn’t have to move out at all, she just wanted to move in with him)
In the last 2 months she has made her daughter, my mate and all the rest of us refer to him as “daddy craig”, she has bought him fathers day presents (obviously not the daughters idea as she is 1yr old), she has put him down on all the forms at daycare etc as the father and plans for him to adopt the child asap (she also wants to replace the fathers name on the birth cert with my mates name, that is impossible as he is not a biological father….. but she thinks it is)
He doesn’t know what to do about it and has gotten himself into a tough situation… he constantly tries to stand up for himself and tell her he is not comfortable… but she just ignores him.
on the one hand he really likes this girl and wants to be with her… on the other… she is a total freak.

This is just one example of a huge con regarding dating a single mother…. I have tonnes more.
I am a single mother myself… so have a good view of both sides… personally… id run a mile before getting with a single mother….
