Well it depends on your level. At the elite level so many points are generated by penalties that it is absolutely critical to have a good penalty kicker. Keep the ball in the oppositions end, and then punish them when they offend. This means fly-half or full-back. And of course the fly-half has the general responsibility of running the offense as well.
At lower level most games are won or lost in the rucks — keeping possesion is critical to scoring the trys that dominate the amateur game. At that level I would say flanker because it is their job to basically follow the ball and support the ball carrier by hitting the ruck hard and quick — or to poach it when on defence.
Answer by dusty_kickThe players who are most likely to be called “playmakers” are the first five eighth, they need to be able to read the game, be good at making crucial decisions and also have a good kicking game.
In a defensive side of things i would say the flanker , mainly the openside would be the most important. This is because he needs to be able to run good defensive lines, be a strong tackler and have a good ability to create turnovers.
All in all i think rugby is a team game and more often than not one or two individuals will not be of great importance if the rest of their team is crap!
Answer by BanditThe #2 and #10 are key players with the latter probably the most important. He/she[yes women do play the game] is the ‘director’ of the game, the tactician that determins how the match is played from set pieces [lineouts scrums etc].Answer by yo
number 10 is the most important position.
