Velocity149: What are the laws on launching a weather balloon in Canada? Ontario in specific?
We are planning on launching a weather balloon, with a camera on it this coming Summer, but we are not sure if there are any laws/rules on this. We are only going to be bringing about 1 pound tops up, and maybe 2500-3000 feet, on a tether. Any info will be appreciated, and sources as well. Thanks
Brian

If there is a camera on it then it will be shot down by the US as an intelligence gathering device. We are also testing a new weapon to cause massive internal trama and currently testing in Arkansas and the rest of the southern region check the news about the massive bird and fish deaths we are able to target a certain species check the news for the drumhead fish deaths.
If you are using a tether and are anywhere near an airfield, you must contact the Aviation Department (whatever it is called in Canada) and get permission to do so. If you are in the middle of nowhere, you needn’t bother. Mostly these things are allowed provided aeroplanes know about them.Answer by Michel Verheughe
Brian, like Tentofield, I will insist that you ask first the permission to you aviation authorities. As the owner and pilot of a very light aircraft, I certainly wouldn’t like to see your balloon in my path; it may cause a deadly accident.
You can, prior to that, check if you are in a controlled airspace. Find your national AIP documents on the internet and check your area map. Any CTR (airport control zone) TMA (terminal area) or any other airspace of class A, C, D or E, will be controlled and it means that aircraft may fly in it with no visibility, only guided by radar. If you are in a non-controlled airspace (class G) then it would probably be easier for you to get permission but your national authorities would still like to e.g. alert your release on what is called a NOTAM.
Good luck with your project!Answer by UALog
I don’t know about the laws in Canada, but in the United States, you must contact the FAA for permission. They will ask a set of standard questions including including your estimate of the flight path that you expect this balloon to take. They will then check to see if the flight path would fly into any area that is considered restricted airspace. If that checks out okay, then they will issue a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM). This notice will advised any aircraft to look out for this balloon..
