New Lamb Mom: What are the laws in Florida regarding leasing a horse out to be used in a lesson program at a barn?
What are the laws in Florida regarding leasing a horse out to be used in a lesson program at a barn? Do I need to purchase equine liability? Do I transfer ownership of the horse to the barn? Any advice is appreciated. The horse is not for sale and I do not want to lose the horse if unfortunate circumstances arise. Thanks.

I leased a horse out once and I had a contract. It covered the length of time the horse was to be leased, also a dollar amount the lessee had to pay me if the horse died while in their possession. They should have insurance on your horse in case something happens. They are also responsible for all vet care including routine stuff during the lease. If your horse is registered there is probably lease papers on the breeds website also. Do not sign your horse over to anyone if you do not want to lose it. Just draw up a contract that will protect you and cover all of your bases.
