tellbabyy: What are some careers in the communications field that will be most likely to accept tattoos and piercings?
I will be a communications major in college and really want to work with people. But, all the research I’ve done says that body mods aren’t really accepted. I have three tattoos and several piercings that I am very proud of and pan on adding to. I want to work in either PR or events planning. Will this be an issue? Are there any other careers I could look into?

you just said research shows this isnt acceptable mainly because it does not look professional. However, i guess if you work for MTV or some rock place then maybe they will be less relaxed. IDK, what is more important a career or body mod?
Radio host, backstage personel, all kinds of technitions, or you can own your own business, but you prob wouldn’t be on the local news or cnn or a gov pr person unless you can hide the tats and piercings xAnswer by Darryl b
i would wait on gettting the other tats until you get in the door, get a feel of the company then make a choice to do that. also i have found that it is the confidence you hold that will determine if tats and piercings are acceptable.
sorry to say but by you asking is telling me that you feel some reservations about it. you have to make sure you walk the walk. some companies will not care….. if you know your job. they are all about attitudes and performance.Answer by Sarie B
It’s all about strategic placement. I’ve almost finished my degree and I’ll be heading out into the professional world with a quarter sleeve! Anything above the elbow can be concealed with 3 quarter length sleeve shirts and anything around the wrists can be fixed with some bracelets or a watch. If they’re on your ankles or legs opt for pants instead of skirts! It’s kind of fun to be the buttoned up professional at work and the tattooed wild child at home 🙂
