Minnie: Was the whole cartoon profile picture on facebook actually a scam for pedophiles?
For the past few days now, people have been posting status saying to put cartoon pictures up as their profile picture for child awareness, but apparently there was no cause, the pedophiles came up with it so that they could add any kid, and the kid would accept their friend request because their picture is up as a cartoon so they look like a kid, or they support the cause for child abuse. Is this true?

No this was not started by a group of pedophiles, nor was it started by the child abuse awareness charity however they have been quoted in welcoming the attention. I most likely started in Greece during their national child abuse awareness day and child right day and went viral by facebook users. The idea that it came from pedophiles was started by a blogger who thought the idea was silly and that only a child predator would come up with it and the story went on from there. I think this is a perfect example of gossip and how it spreads.

No it isn’t and I feel sorry for the people who actually buy this. There’s no legit source to prove this is real. They say it’s a group that started this, but to be fair, it’s the Facebook users themselves who spreaded this message to begin with, so we can’t blame the pedophile on this one.
Think of it this way, it’s EXACTLY like a chain mail… tries to panic you into spreading this rubbish that isn’t true.
Besides, it should be common sense not to accept a request from someone you don’t know.

Some people are saying the cartoon picture thing on Facebook was started by a group of pedophiles. I don’t think this is true. It is YOUR job as a parent to tell your children NOT to add people they don’t recognize by name on Facebook! Instead of pulling down others only trying to raise awareness for a cause. I think it’s truly pitiful that some people are gullible enough to fall for such crap. Leave it to the ignoramuses to attack something as innocent as a childhood cartoon character.
