If everyone in the world would convert to islam then there would be no need for holy wars and we could all live in peace as long as we follow the teachings of the Koran. So would that be so terrible?

Yes. Unless it were the truth. Which it is not.
It would be as bad as everyone converting to Christianity would be.
And what makes you think there wouldn’t be sectarian violence in either case?

I think it would be terrible for women, since Islam doesn’t seem to respect the value of women as people. They put men way to high above women.Answer by Evan R
Dude, umm.. not everyone can be the same. I’m christian, but i dont ask for the whole world to be christianAnswer by Adam K
It depends on who you talk to. For me I don’t particularly care what religion you follow as long as it doesn’t affect me.
We live in a society that places a high value on choice and the ability to make those choices makes up who we are. I feel that if I am forced to convert to a religion thats infringing on part of my value of choice. That infringement on my value of choice changes me as a person and NO ONE has the right to do that.
Answer by DanaAh yes, being stoned to death for talking to a man would be ever so peaceful.Answer by Andrea H
Yes, well, the problem with that is that not everyone believes the teachings of the Koran for a start. Personally I think the world would be better off without any form of religion, or any money for that matter, but that’s never going to happen either. We will never, ever all get on like one big happy family, because if it’s not religion or greed, it’ll be something else.Answer by dark_angelic_chick
Because we’re human.
Not everyone believes the same thing. And just because you go by an islamic faith (or any other) doesn’t make you a better person than anyone else. Just because you believe in certain faiths doesn’t make you above temptations, like greed.
So in theory, yeah, if everyone would follow the teachings of Qur’an (or the Bible, or the Torah, ect.) without error, and all lived completely pure and happy lives, then yes there would be peace.
But we have the choice of religion, how we interpret it and how we follow it. And we aren’t perfect. Therefore, your theory will never work.
Answer by jaemydollThe same thing that would be wrong about converting the entire world to Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism or anything else.
Every one is different and entitled to individual thoughts, feelings and beliefs/belief systems.
Even religious oppression is oppression. If we could really accept each other – like most religions claim to teach – there would be no need for Holy Wars… which is a ridiculous idea in the first place.
There is nothing Holy about any war. Ever.

It wouldn’t matter who converted to what. There will always be conflict. Human nature would dictate that.Answer by Justice!
Primarily because it suggests a blatant example of opposing the will of the Muslims on everyone else. Now that probably has some name but I call it wrong. i would fight that sort of thing just like palestinians fight jews. so long as they keep it over there, I want to stay out of it. when they bring it here, well then somebody is gonna start fighting back. you can practice nudism and smoke crack in your own backyard, just don’t try it in my backyard. i am okay with personal freedom, do not get too push proslyetizing my family. we are okay, you are okay and we can be civil. just don’t push. if i see something that i want to adopt, then it is different. i love the lessons of buddhism, but they never push. it is a way of life that is a program of attraction and good sense. not worshipping some mullahs and a alleged prophet. all that is mythology to me. and when it comes to mythology, i prefer the greeks far above all the others.Answer by Helios
Religion is probably just a mask for race wars – or wars to grab natural resources. Religion is a really completely useless thing.
But converting to Islam would be great. Might be fun – I doubt if it would stop the wars. People LOVE wars – And Bush can use them to rob the US government and feed his rich friends at the public trough.
War is the way Bush was able to build “Blackwater” – a lawless par military group which goes around and murders people. Nice, hu? It’s paid for with your tax money.

Answer by chrysostomonWell for a starters women would be viewed as being less than man. Muslims believe that, although men and women ‘come from the same substance’ that man has been made to excel women.
Marriage to nine year old children would be allowed – following the example of Muhammad who ‘consummated’ his marriage to Aisha when she was nine.
Capital punishment wold be introduced for moral ‘crimes’, such as adultery.
Institutions of learning that don’t accord themselves with Islamic teaching would be destroyed.
Further, we’d all have submitted to a created being, not to God.
