you can only claim your daughter for the years after they were born

if you didnt work last year there is nothing to claim, but you still must file with no income

better file your 06 taxes SOON!!!

Answer by peachcobbler
If your daughter did not reside with you for more than 6 months, your mom has the right to claim her

You can’t claim your baby as a dependant in 2006 since she wasn’t born until 2007.

For 2007, since you didn’t work I assume that your mother supported both you and the baby. If that’s the case, then your mother would be entitled to take both you and your daughter as dependants.

You or your mother can not claim your child for ’06, since she was not alive at the time.

You should just bite the bullet and file a tax return for ’06. You’ll be subject to penalties and interest, but it’s best to get that problem off your back.

You will be able to claim your child for ’07 if you worked. If not, and your mother supported you and your child, she can claim both of you for ’07.

How can yoou claim a deduction for someone who didn’t exist? You need to file your income theft like everyone else. You need to hope you don’t get slapped by the IRS for penalties for failing to file. That’s known as “tax evasion”.

Answer by sirmrmagic
You may claim your taxes but your child must have lived with you at least 50 % of the time in order to claim her for a dependent, since she was not born in 06,NO neither you or your mom can claim her for 06……………your mom should claim you and your daughter since she supported you………………

Answer by ed
When you file for ’06, and owe no tax, or are entitled to a refund, no penalties apply.
If you have a tax obligation, penalties and interest apply.

you can’t claim your kid at all for 06-and only one of you or your mom can claim the child for 07

Answer by Kat
If you have a 5 onth old then he/she was born in ’07 If you worked in “06 and did not file for an extesion then you may have penalties. You can still file for ’06 but you cannot clain a child that was not born until a year later. Why would the govenrment give you a deduction for a child that did not exist for that tax year? Also, you mother dannot claim her either. Now if you are under 18 your mother can still claim you for ’06 even if you had income. I believe you can still file your your taxes also, but you need to talek to a tax preparer. As for the child, If you work this year then nest year you can claim your child. If you mother wants to claim the both of you, she would have to proe that she supplied over 50% of your support, again check the guidelines with a tax preparer.

Answer by Judy
You can’t claim your daughter for 2006 since she wasn’t born yet then. And no matter when you file, it’s still your 2006 taxes, so you can’t claim a baby that wasn’t born yet then.

You don’t give a lot of info – do you and the baby live with your mom? If so, then she can very possibly claim YOU for 2007, and also claim the baby.
