It’s because the government offers people incentives not to work. You may have qualified for any number of credits that you can receive irrespective of whether you paid any taxes. (Beware, if you ever become successful, the government will yank away the teat and begin to tax you like crazy).
You actual ly don’t provide quite enough info – you don’t mention how much you make or if you qualify for the EITC. If you make below the minimum to pay taxes and qualify for the EITC, you would get cash back. If you don’t qualify for the EITC (or one or two other refundable tax credits), you should not get anything back.Answer by bostonianinmo
Not enough info to say. If you were a single parent with 3 children all under age 17 as of Dec 31, 2008 filing as Head of Household and NOT self-employed, you’d receive a refund of $ 624 even though no Federal income tax was withheld from your pay. You’d be in a similar situation if you were married and your spouse did not work and you had 2 children. (If you were self-employed in either situation, you’d owe over $ 4,800 in self-employment taxes.)
Would need a LOT more information about your financial, personal and tax details to give you an answer.
Answer by Dan BAlmost EVERYONE who makes $ 41k will have some taxes to pay. You don’t indicate what your exemptions and deductions are, however. That may be a reason you didn’t have to pay taxes or have to pay now. It’s also possible that there were some serious errors on your previous tax returns.
Knock, Knock.
