sy♥: sports !?!??!?
why do people sometime dont consider ballet or dance a sport, i dont dance but why isnt it a sport, is a sport basically something that you have to practice, and pay to play, if dance isnt a sport then running, a sport, because in runnign all you do is run around an oval, and try to get the best time, or why isnt ice skating, or even playing an instrument not a sport to some people like i said isnt anything you practice, use deterimnation, endurance, or agillity, a sport, or anythign that takes heart

well most of the things u said were in the olympics. And i think ppl just don’t really think of that as a sport because it is not team oriented or things like that. Team competitions brings more entertainement to the ppl. And it always has..

Answer by hogie0101Dance, Ballet, ice skating, ect are athletic but are not sports. Yes they take skill and ability, and i respect that. However there is no clear way to determine a winner. I know skating is in the olympics but they are subjective points awarded by people. Same with dance, there is no goal or finish line, etc.
Running is a sport, it’s athletic, does require a strategy though limited and there is a clear winner, the finish line.
I love billards (pool) but it’s not a sport. It does require skill, talent, and ability but there is no athleticisim. Same with golf and bowling. High skill, yes indeed, but if you can be beat by a super fat dinking smoker, it’s not a sport.
So sum up
1 Show a clear winner as sport must not have a subjective measure like points awarded by judges who think one is better than another.
2 Must be athletic, If you can drink beer and smoke while doing it, it’s not a sport.
Very difficult thing to try and define, what is or isn’t a sport. the definition is “an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature”
To me I consider something to be a sport where there is direct competition against another person. Everything else I consider to be a skill, or a multitude of skills, no less impressive than something I consider a sport.
For example, I consider things like hockey and baseball football etc to be sports, whereas something like golf or bowling to be skill.
Like other skills, ballet and dance in a skill, a ridiculously hard one to master but its not a sport because, to me, there is no interaction in a competitive regard.
A perfect example of the distinction is you mentioning ice skating. Ice skating is a skill, and within the world of hockey a necessary skill to playing the sport.
