Jul: How do i get a refund from Motel 6 for a night I didn’t stay?
I made an online reservation for two nights at a Motel 6 and informed the man at the front desk that I’d only be staying for one when I checked in. He said I would be refunded the money for the night I didn’t stay. The next morning I check out and two weeks after that I get my credit statement that shows a charge for two nights. Am I supposed to get a check in the mail or what’s supposed to happen?

I doubt it, that you will get a check in the mail. You should have gotten from the hotel clerk a cancellation number or a statement accepting your cancellation. I hope that you have at least his name. If this is not the case, I would call during normal business hours the hotel and ask for the manager and explain the situation to him/her. If he/she is cooperative and if he/she finds the cancellation on their computer, I am sure that they will credit the amount to your credit card. In any case write down names, date and hour of your conversation and what transpired. If they can not find any cancellation record ask them whether your assigned room was occupied in the night which was canceled by you. If all fails you can contact your credit card company, but I doubt that they can help you, if you do not have evidence of cancellation.
some hotels require a 24 hour notice on if you are cancelling a reservation for a night and maybe that would include your entire stay, otherwise you will still be charged. I would call the hotel and see what they can see though since he said you would be refunded.Answer by JazzSinger
First of all, hopefully you kept the paperwork the hotel gave you when you checked out. That should show the date you checked in and the date you checked out.
I would dispute the charge with my credit card company, pending a resolution of the situation. Offer to provide them with a copy of your paperwork. Disputing the charge will put that charge on hold until the dispute is resolved or dropped.
I would contact the hotel, speak to the manager, and explain the situation. If the manager says that what happened is the policy of the hotel, ask for the policy in writing. If the manager can provide the policy in writing, then you’re screwed and you just have to pay for the second night. If not, then you have a really good case, and you should win the dispute with the credit card company. If the manager offers you a refund, I would keep the credit card dispute going until I get the refund. I would think that a refund would be more likely to show up on the credit card rather than be in the form of a check.
