Riley H: How can I add a song on PowerPoint and also have the slides change without the song stop playing?
I would like to use powerpoint to make a video consisting of several picture slides but have one song play the whole way through the presentation. However, I add the song to the slide but when the slide changes the song stops. How can I make the song play the whole slide show and be able to have the slides switch?

If your using 2007 powerpoint do the following:
Insert–> Sound–> Sound From File–> Select the sound from your computer.
Once it is on your powerpoint right click the megaphone to view a new settings area. Select whether you want to hide that symbol and wether you want it to loop (play throughout powerpoint) or not. Hope this helps.Answer by Swiss
It’s depend the versions of powerpoint you are use:
How do you have music play throughout your whole PowerPoint?

PowerPoint presentations can be designed to advance manually. Sometimes, when you complete your presentations, you may also need to automate them and set up the exact time duration for each slide and so that they can run by themselves. How do you have music play throughout your whole PowerPoint?
First, download the song(s) in mp3 or WAV format that can be accepted by power point.
If you have PowerPoint 2007:
1>insert the music file:
go to insert >sound>Select Sound from File …choose the sound which you want ,Click OK and a message prompts, saying How do you want the sound to start in the slide show? Click Automatically.
2>Set up the effect of the sound:
1. click animations tab, then click the custom animation, you can see a pop-up window.
2. Click the sound file that you want to set, Click the drop down arrow of the music item you just added from the Custom Animation list and select Effect Options.
3. A window named Play Sound displays. Select After and then set the total number of slides .Now when you select OK and exit the custom animation box, your sound will continue to play.
If you have PowerPoint 2003:
1>insert the music file:
click the sound icon to display the Options tab. Click on the tab, and set Play across slides for Play Sound.
2>Set up the effect of the sound:
1.right click on the icon in your presentation and select “Custom Animation.”
2. There will be a section for “Effect” with the option to stop playing after X slides.
3. Set the number of slides for the sound to play here. Now when you select OK and exit the custom animation box, your sound will continue to play.

there is an article about your question. you can read it here:
You do this using a feature called Custom Animation. Select your music file then Right click (not the usual left click) and select Custom Animation. You can do this by selecting Slide Show > Custom Animation
How you do this depends upon which version of PowerPoint you are using.
For older versions of PowerPoint
Then select Multimedia Settings afterwards and make sure that you have selected While Playing >Continue Slide show You will then need to set the Stop Playing button and enter in the Stop Playing > After number slides the number of slides that you would like the music to play for.
If you are using PowerPoint XP the procedure is slightly different
Custom Animation > Right Click on Media and select Effect OptionsYou will then need to set the Stop Playing button and enter in the Stop Playing > After number slides the number of slides that you would like the music to play for.
In PowerPoint 2003, follow these steps:
1. Go to the first slide, and select Insert -> Movies and Sounds -> Sound from File to insert the sound.
2. After you click OK, you can see a message pop up asking how you want the sound to start in slide shows. Click Automatically.
3. Select Slide Show ->Custom Animation to enter the Custom Animation pane. Your soundtrack is listed below in the pane.
4.In the drop-down list of the sound, choose Effect Options. Then the Play Sound interface appears. In the Effect tab, click the radio button beside Stop Playing After XXX slides to enter the total number of slides.
5.Next, check the settings in the Timing tab. To play automatically, you can set to Start After Previous with a 0-second delay. Click OK to exit the dialog box.
6.Then go to Sound Settings tab, adjust the sound volume as you like. You can also tick to hide sound icon during slideshow if you don’t want it appear.
Now you can play the soundtrack from the very beginning to the end of your slideshow.
And in PowerPoint 2007, do as follows:
1. On the slide, click Insert to pick the Sound drop-down list on the very right below the tab. Select Sound from File in the list and choose the specified sound track from your hard drive.
2. Click OK and a message prompts, saying “How do you want the sound to start in the slide show?”. Click Automatically.
3. Now click the sound icon to display the Options tab. Click on the tab, and set Play across slides for Play Sound.
At the moment, it is time for you to play the entire slide show while enjoying this pleasant sound score.
