i need help for my physics project….i gotta do a science research on satellites….i need to have information about them, tables, calculations…what could i possibly calculate and do problems about satellites and should i do it….anything would help…thx

Hi – interesting subject – are you concentrating on man-made satellites? or satellites in general?
You could indeed look at speeds and orbital periods (during it takes the satellite to complete one orbit), whether they are man-made or natural, which bodies they orbit…

Satellites orbit the earth at some altitude because they have insufficient velocity to escape Earth’s gravitational pull. So, consider the condition of a planet, such as Mars, with liquid surface water. If such a planet had an abundance of water in the past and does not appear to have any appreciable amount at present, where did the water go? What would the velocity of a quantity of water have to be to completely leave the planet Mars, i.e., not simply go into orbit? Knowing the density of liquid water, then, how much energy would have to be deposited into the water for it to reach that velocity? If there was just one body of water on Mars the size of, say, Lake Michigan, how much energy would it take for it all to have escaped Mars’ gravity and not simply become an icy orbiting satellite? How does this energy compare with the total arsenal of all Nuclear powers on our planet?
