Marcus Quintilius Varus: Obama 2 hrs ago…QUOTE: “We have to get in order now b/c CONGRESS maxed out our credit card”…Really?
Pretty sure the Republicans and even some Democrats in congress fought him every step of the way during his “stimulus” spending binge…Do you believe the President should at least claim some level of responsibility for reaching the debt limit…or has congress become the new “public enemy no. 1” as of November 2010?
Wow…okay, I guess I need to explain. I understand Congress ultimately determines budgets and spending. The point is executive approval IS needed, and Obama was an ardent supporter of digging the debt hole deeper and deeper. Now when it becomes controversial…he simply blames congress….

Yes, a little known fact of our constitution – it’s actually the congress that decides how much money is spent.Answer by Chewy Ivan 2
Stimulus spending was around $ 800 billion. The National debt is almost 20x that size. Congress has been maxing out the credit card since before Obama was born.
Now we can claim we can’t raise the limit anymore and kill what’s left of our economy with cutbacks on American consumers while protecting tax breaks on luxury goods for the filthy rich, or we can raise the borrowing limit and get Americans back to work so they don’t need so many handouts from the government, earn their own living, and can pay more in taxes to help make deficit reduction feasible.
Edit: Budget is Congress’ responsibility. Congressional Republicans shouldn’t get away with making hay over deficit spending and place all the blame on the president. Threatening economic armageddon by holding the debt ceiling hostage in order to force spending cuts without tax loophole cuts is despicable. If Republicans want to balance budgets, they should do it with the budget, not by taking our borrowing limit hostage.
Answer by C.O. JonesI didn’t see him veto any measure of spending. His signature went on every spending bill laid before him. He’s a damn fraud.Answer by Maj
We know the credit card was maxed at least 7 times during the Bush term.
Who controls the purse string exactly? Congress (House specifically)
Did the stimulus work? https://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/2010-08-30-stimulus30_CV_N.htm
While it wasn’t liked, it did what it was meant to do.
Why did we need a Stimulus? Was it just rampant spending? No. It had a job and did it.
I drive 10 miles “on” that Stimulus money every day… and it’s a smooth ride.
