baglady: My parents receive social security benefits and wondering if they’re eligible to receive the refund?
My parents’re senior citizens and receive social security benefit. They’re waiting for the refund money. Are they eligible to receive it? From my understanding even if you don’t earn income you still can receive $ 300?

Yes, but but they need to fill out a tax form to get it, even if they normally are not required to fill one out!
yes they are, my wife and I are on SS and we have already recived our 600 dollars (300 each) they can still qualify, they have until october 15th to file. They have to file a 1040a or 1040 on the top of the tax form they must write “Economic “Stimulus”

and how to fileAnswer by Judy
Did they file a return for 2007, the one that was filed early this year, and show the ss? If so, then yes they should get $ 300 each assuming that their total ss income for 2007 between them was at least $ 3000.
If they didn’t file, they won’t get a stimulus check. But if they didn’t file so far, they have until October 15 to file and still get it.
Answer by John ScottYes, as a couple they can receive $ 600 as long as their combined SSA benefits are more than $ 3000.
As noted, they need to complete Form 1040A. Make sure they write “stimulus payment” on the top of the form and ensure that these lines are checked or filled out along with their names, address and SS numbers.
Line 2
Lines 6a & 6b (and the boxes to the far right of them)
Line 7 – Enter “0”
Line 14a – Enter the total combined SSA income
Lines 44a, 44b, and 44c if they have a bank account
No other lines need to be completed.
Both must sign and date the form and then mail it in.
Answer by Richard MAccording to the IRS:
You may qualify for a minimum payment of $ 300 ($ 600 if filing a joint return) if your tax return reflects $ 3,000 or more in qualifying income – which includes non-taxable Social Security.
BUT YOU MUST FILE TO RECEIVE THE REBATE, even if you are not required to do so.

Alternatively, the IRS has announced an electronic free file option for people who have no legal requirement to file a tax return but must file a return this year in order to receive a 2008 economic stimulus payment. Click on this link to file for your rebate electronically:
