binarybill_1945: my landlord is renovating the house so I have to stay in a motel. who is resposible for the cost of the motel?
The landlord told me not to pay the rent for this month because I am being inconvenienced. The renovations are going to take longer than he thought but the rent only covered two weeks at the motel. additional costs are laundry, eating out, fuel costs, etc. I am on fixed income and can’t affpord to pay the additional rent at the motel. should the landlord have to pay for these costs?

yes I think so. Go to the real estate agent and ask them.
Tell him you need to not pay two months rent do equal what your a putting out. Get EVERYTHING in writing. And I do think he is only responsible for your motel cost- your food a fuel and laundry won’t be covered. Don’t get greedy, laundry is not that much (and your were paying for that anyways) and you can still eat out cheaply by buying premade food at the grocery store and taking it to the motel.Answer by tcwoua
Nope, you will pay for it although he/she is the one who to blame why your not in the house, but you are the one that will take credit for using the motel ^_^.Answer by Momma D
you would have to look at your contract/rent agreement or speak to the lawyer or estate agent who found you the property
if this is a private arrangement with the landlord, and he is not part of a group or regulated body, then you need to speak to him ASAP, as while you aren’t sure, the bill is rising
you may need to stay with a friend or find a cheaper alternative
Your landlord has to put you up in a hotel. That is the law. That is in the renters guide also. I am a landlord and I would have to put up my renter as long as the house is being renovated. He isn’t obligated to pay for anything else.Answer by roxxn
You basically will not have to pay rent for the time you don’t live there. For other expenses you should check with your local housing or renters association or website. Good luck.Answer by curious
The landlord should have to pay for the hotel costs (at least what amount goes over your normal rent costs). But the landlord is not responsible for covering your laundry, eating out, & fuel costs, etc.Answer by Casey
the landlord has to pay for it!!!!!Answer by Mother knows best!
If you were told not to pay rent for this month , then you are responsible for the Motel, I ‘m sure that the motel fee will not be as high is your rent ,so with the difference you should be able to cover food etc…
Since the repairs are going to take longer then ask the landlord for another week or so of not having to pay rent , he might be a reasonable person and you wont need to pay the extra money for rent. Just think that when it’s all done it would be worth the wait .
