rooster: My cat seems very territorial to new cat. Will it ever work?
I got a new cat about 6 months ago from humane society. She is a de-clawed cat that is very agresive to other cats. It was assumed that other cats have probley picked on her, and she was defenseless. I decided recently that I wanted another cat, so I picked up another de-clawed female in hopes that it would at some point allow my current cat to eventually like other cats. My new cats first day was like W.W.W. III. She was very shanken and showed a huge amount of agression, not only with the new cat, but also with me…probley because of new cat smell. I have since split them up in differnt rooms, and switched them back in forth in hopes that they will adjust. Just putting my old cat in the new cats room is a challenge itself. I was told when I adopted 1st cat that she did not like other cats. Did I make a mistake?
I dont support de-clawing cats. Just happend to adopt one.

I don’t think so ,sorry
Usually cats will warm up to each other, the one that is aggressive will probably always be aggressive but it should adjust with the other cats. Whenever you can watch try putting them together just make sure they don’t fight.Answer by Haley
first, I dont think that you should de-claw your cat. if she was to get out someway, how would she defend herself. I have 8 cats which are all different ages, and they all get along. You just have to let them know that the new cat is not going to hurt you. Your other cat will come along, just give it time.Answer by eldoradodave
Rooster, ya got to do an “attitude adj.” What a Vet did for me with a male cate 9 mo. old and a 6 wk old kitten was to give the aggressive on Valium or Ativan. His “dosing recommendations didn’t faze the male cat so I started cramming 10 mg Valium down his throat till he went down. And when he would start to straighten up I ,again crammed all 10 mg down his throat . This went on for 4 days. The kitten would play with his tail and ears and all he could do was slightly protest . After 4 days I let him sober up.2 days later they were playing like 2 kittensAnswer by Ug-Ugg
It can work. You just have to introduce them really slowly. Start out with having them in different rooms at all times. Put the new one in a room and have the old one have the run of the house. Over time start scooting their food dishes on each side of the door. Once they can eat their food in peace on the opposite sides, open the door so they can see each other when they eat. This may take many tries but don’t give up. They’ll eventually associate tasty food with each other. But whatever you do don’t just throw them in a room and expect them to play together. Your old cat is territorial because it is her house and she doesn’t want a stranger in it. Remember to let her have her special time with you everyday. But if it doesn’t work out remember that some cats just don’t do well with others.Answer by jacksnbfan

No, you didn’t make a mistake. It just takes some time. Your older cat is just feeling threatened and insecure. Remember, in her short life, she has already been passed around quite a bit. She has formed a bond with you and feels betrayed and like you are replacing her with this new cat. She also is conveying her dominance to the new cat and staking a claim regarding territorial issues.
You probably did your old cat a great favor. Even if they are a bit aggressive with other cats, they get lonely when you are away and they are by themselves. It’s just going to take her some time to get used to your new cat. Try not to scold her too much for reacting to the new cat; it looks like you are choosing the other cat over her. Integrate them slowly; begin by letting them spend an hour or so -under your supervision-together each day. If they start to fight, just separate them. It just takes time, faith, and patience on your part. Feed them separately for awhile and spend some special time alone with each of your cats.
I know it seems unfathomable now, but they will get used to each other and probably become very close.
