Train A had a half hour head start in which time it went half of 55 = 27.5 miles. Train B catches up (60 – 55) = 5 miles per hour so it will take it 5 1/2 hours to catch up 27.5 miles. So 12:45 + 5:30 = 6:15 PMAnswer by Diane M
When train B passes the stop, a half hour has passed. That puts train A 27.5 miles from the stop. The question is, then, how long will it take train B to make up that distance. Since train B is traveling 5 miles per hour faster than train A, it’ll take 27.5/5 = 5.5 hours. Five and a half hours after 12:45 PM is 6:15 PM.
