: When do you think mainstream music in general will start getting good again?
Right now, the vast majority of music that becomes popular sucks majorly. However, in my opinion, in the next 5-10 years popular music will start getting pretty good. I think the type of music that “hipsters” listen to right now, which I consider to be good music, will start to catch on and eventually start becoming the mainstream music. What are your thoughts on this?

I am tired of hearing auto-tuned everything
Mainstream music has hardly ever been good. I would say on average there are 10 good pop songs a year. The rest are crap. That is why you hear the same oldies on the radio stations over an over again. Because those are the good ones.Answer by David Martin
Never, I quit lisning to the radio 10 years ago, if my friends play something I like, I find out what it is and add that to my collection.Answer by That Metal Guy
I never listen to the mainstream. I tend to go underground and search for bands I enjoy. I’m a metal fan, so my music will never be mainstream.Answer by Carver
The mainstream has always been like that. Always.Answer by Tom
Rock music isn’t really good these days neither is pop/rap/hip-hop. All mainstream music isn’t good, but maybe teens will go for more of classic rock/metal such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica etc.Answer by smeagol

Have you seen those music charts blogs? MANY people who like alternative music are getting ready for the ALTERNATIVE decade. They see fun.’s “We Are Young” (along with Gotye, Foster The People, Mumford and Sons, Florence and the machine, Owl City, Coldplay, Panic At The Disco and Evanescence to cite a few) as the proof of a new decade when indie music will become the new popular music. I’m not sure because many Disney-like artists, pop divas, and rappers doing featurings are still in the top 10. But who knows? Yet we have to admmit the US is slow accepting new music. For instance, Brazilian song “Ai Se Eu Te Pego” reached the top spot in Europe and Latin America….in the US it peaked at 95. Lana Del Rey’s”Videogames” was succesful outside the US—although Del Rey is American herself.Answer by A
The talent pool is lacking, everything sounds like a BS TV commercial.
