Bethy: Can Islam survive as both a religion and an ideology?
Islam the religion and Islam the political ideology can not exist together.
One has to fall away so that the other must live
As a religion, the one that is followed voluntarily by its followers its a wonderful thing as is any religion that gives hope and faith to its followers.
As a ideology that demands assimilation, it is the most dangerous thing that has ever faced the human race.
Can the world defeat the ideology without harming the religion?
What is your opinion?

religion is ideology
All “mainstream” or modern societies demand assimilation. And there are radical and more liberal forms of almost every ideology and belief system.Answer by Jake
well for starters you obviously dont know anything about the religion. their is no difference between the two. islam is all one thing and it demands that muslims take over the world. learn how to interpret the qur’an first and then try reading it again and you’ll see it for what it is supposed to be. in my opinion we should liquefy mecca with a couple hydrogen bombs and get rid of them all together. its what they are told to do to the rest of us in their “religion of peace” and they are trying to slowly via car bombs and suicide bombers. people blow it off because they dont understand but these people are dangerous and patient. they have lived in the desert for thousands of years..they will wait as long as they need to as long as they think they are furthering the ultimate muslim goal. we need to stop them before any more innocent people die simply because they dont believe in islamAnswer by Slightly Dark Francis
Actually, if the political ideology is based on the religion, then you have a theocratic ideology, which is both political and religious. Iran, for example…is a theocracy. Afghanistan under the Taliban was a theocracy. There are certain fundamentalist Christians, bless their nylons, who’d happily see The United States of America as a theocracy.Answer by LA_Chick
Islam is a very old religion and there are over 1 billion followers world wide. It is also the fastest growing religion. But change of a religion must come from within, it is muslims themselves that have to renounce violence. I have been pleased to see an important Iman taking a stand this week against violence in the name of Islam.Answer by nineteenkilo30hotel
Much like smallpox, islam is too dangerous to have on the planet.
The world will survive just fine without this virus program for acquiring political power and material wealth that masquerades as a religious faith.
Islam cannot exist with any other system of belief, so it is a dead end. It’s up to the rest of the world to make that a reality.

You have finally said something that I want to support. Another reply above covers what I want to say, in that any political ideology based on religion is a theocracy. Theocracies are notoriously dangerous to society, whether they be Islamic, Christian, or even Buddhist. The role of government, as best exemplified in the First Amendment, is to first deny the establishment of any religion, and then to protect the free exercise of any religion.
Anything more than a denial of the establishment of a religion creates excessive entanglement by the government, and anything less than the complete protection of the free exercise, denies the Citizens of their fundamental freedoms.

Excellent question.
Hopefully, Democracy, in places like Iraq, is a good start.
Answer by bloodthumpYes, followed voluntarily. Special taxes for non-Muslims. Death for apostates. Sounds real voluntary to me.
You could, of course, change Islam, but then it wouldn’t be Islam anymore. It’s a bit like finding a Muslim that doesn’t approve of pedophilia or the oppression of women or who would act honestly and honorably towards a non-Muslim. It would be great to find that person; but that person wouldn’t be a Muslim.
Best if Islam just falls and takes its nasty ideology with it.
