david l: is there anyway to buy stocks that are traded on the nyse online?
I know that nowadays many people trade stocks online using a online brokerage. However, I’ve heard that stocks are traded on the trading floor at the nyse and requires brokers to go to the physical location and calling for the number of stocks they want to the specialist. Is there anyway for traders to buy or sell stocks listed on the nyse online.

I don’t quite get your question…. but here’s the bottom line;
As a retail customer you can only buy stocks through a broker (DRIPS also go a through licensed intermediary);
There are basically two choice;
Full Service Broker, 200 shares of any given stock can cost anywhere from $ 75 – $ 300 in commissions.
On-Line Broker, 200 shares can cost anywhere from $ 1 – $ 35 in commissions.
These approx. commission dollars are for NYSE & NASDQ purchases (or sales).
