trekseattle: Is there a “standard” yahoo mail account other than the “family” account that needs a Credit card to acivate?
I tried to get a different email account and once everything was filled out it said “now go get your parents, we need a credit card”

I want another mail account but don’t want to be charged .50 cents on a credit card. And its really not about the money either. Is this the new rules for getting a yahoo email account?

I thought it was free – I’ve been on here for a year and haven’t paid anything for emails or Yahoo Answers.

Whoa ! This sounds like a scam or identity theft. I have several accounts for various reasons and never gave that kind of infor or paid for any of them.

I just went to yahoo mail and signed up, I didn’t have to pay anything. It didn’t ask me for a credit card, thankfully.

Definitely online scam, don’t trust that site. Search Yahoo Mail in Google and the first link should be the official one.

Personally I’ve used Yahoo Mail since 2002 and they’ve never charged anything for their email accounts, to sign up you just need a username, password, alternative email account or a security question (in case you forgot your password) and that’s it.

And there’s no need for birthday date nor credit card to prove your age, since a Yahoo Mail account is for all ages absolutely free, like Google Mail or Hotmail.

In fact any web mail service should be free, it’s an industry standard. Any paying ones are fraud.
