Elle: Is this part of the Korean and Japanese culture?
Okay well I have a few Asian friends from school and one of them is from Japan and the other one is Korean. Well whenever I watch Korean drama shows, they always sleep on the floors, like as their beds. Why? And why do the Japnese take baths together as a fmaily, including boys and girls?
I would ask my friends but i didnt want to seem rude..

Japanese don’t have a social stigma on nakedness like americans do.
and as for the beds, it’s just part of their culture like the few africans that sleep on straw made mats.

They don’t sleep on the floor, they sleep on futons which are laid out on the floor. It’s the traditional bed for Asian countries although many sleep on beds too. But futon are easy to handle because you just pack them up and put them away after sleeping on them and then you have a lot of space in your room (Asian houses are usually smaller than American houses) to do other things. Futon also don’t damage the tatami flooring which can be expensive and very quick to damage. Futon are very comfortable.
When people are in a bath together they’re not having a bath, they’re just relaxing. It’s like a hot spring except in the home. People first wash outside of the bath using a special shower (there’s a drain in the middle of the floor to collect all the water) and the bath is for relaxing. Parents bathe with their young kids because it’s a good bonding time, siblings also bathe together but usually not when they get older. Since the water doesn’t get dirty because you’ve washed outside of the tub all family members usually use the same bath water. Tubs nowadays are designed to keep heat in and Japanese baths are very hot anyway.
Asia isn’t as disgusted by the body as America is so bathing together isn’t seen as perverse, it’s very common.

Well, old school korea sleeps on the floor, and a lot still do, alot of times the floors are heated and in the winter time its cozy, they have a really thick heavy base blanket to lay on. Plus many rooms are very small so having a bed there all day would be impractical.
Well in Japan, they aren’t as embarrassed being nude as we are here, and its just a cultural difference.
