Sunil B: Is it possible to book accommodation once you land in Beijing (Peking) airport in China?
I am planning to visit China in October. Would it be possible to book accommodation and sightseeing tours at Beijing Airport when I land there? Also would it be cheaper?

you can do that but not at the airport. look up “CTS” or China Travel Service it is on Wanfujing avenue in Beijing…The very best travel service I dealt with in china was “Chinese Culture Club”. They have a website look it up, www.chinesecultureclub.org. They are a non profit group for expatriate travel, meaning you’ll meet many people from around the world and since they are non profit, they are very cheap and don’t make forced stops at hokey government-sponsored souvenir shops. My favorite tours were the hutong tours especially the one where we visited a pet market… They have off the beaten path type tours for one day.. and weekend/longer tours too of other cities… Highly recommend
You can book hotels when arriving in China for sure. There should be a telephone directory. For city tours, yes for sure, I recommend you do that. But why not book your hotel in advance?. Its safer, you can get better rates, almost all forms of information can now be found on-line right.
Try www.ctrip.com, you can find a list of hotels around your budget and then book it. Find a hotel near a train/subway station and it will be more convenient & cost savings.
