anonarron: Is Facebook a vital part of communicating and making friends these days?
I have deleted my Facebook account a long time ago and I have lost contact with a lot of people and no one ever seems to contact me anymore. This has made me question if a social networking account is as vital as having a mobile phone these days if you’re young (meaning under 25). Do people even text anymore?
Is it the fact I have people in my life who aren’t really my friends or is it that Facebook is a vital part of communicating with people these days?

This is not the answer you are looking for, but real life is always the best thing. It is more difficult to hide behind a screen than real eyes. I know I am going to get bashed for this, but it is my belief.
It’s the face you aren’t calling them to hang out. It’s a two way street. Facebook makes it easier to plan stuff because sometimes people miss their text messages and phone calls.Answer by good directions

I don’t think facebook is that important in communication as it is assumed. Sometimes large industrial groups issue artificial figures about their popularity.Majority of the face book users are inactive. Like all other social media sites is a bubble. It will definitely vanish with the passage of time. I don’t call it a reliable communication source as many people around the globe are educated but they don’t even know the use of modern iphones, latest versions of windows and facebook. I think facebook is a vital part of your social life. Friendships are give and take, and if you are not giving in some way (being available- or maintaining a presence in peoples live’s) then no one thinks of giving back to you. It’s not that they aren’t your friends- they just have no opportunity to show you that they are. That is what facebook is for.
I’m not super big into online social networking- but you can put as little or as much time as you want in it. I get on fb like every few weeks. Really, it takes such a minimal effort. I assume the few friends who refuse to be on facebook just don’t care about keeping in touch.
