I would go with a jewelery store that way you can look at it and have a warranty.Answer by Ethan
Yes, BlueNile is safe to purchase from, but if you go to a jewelery shop to buy it’d be better as you can really see the item, and return it if needed. BlueNile has some awesome deals though.
You might also want to check Tiffany, here is the site .
Answer by KristyGo to a local jewelry store. You get to see what you are buying and you establish a relationship with a store with real people, not a website with an email or phone contact.
Good luck!
Answer by WifeforlifeYou need to search “Blue nile” complaints or “online jewelery complaints” for your answer. Ask yourself: is this purchase really important? Do I want to be shipping, insured, any time I need repairs, adjustments? Do I want my girl to try on her ring to be sure it looks good on her hand? Do I KNOW for certain that the diamond shown online is the same I will receive? Do I like sending hundreds or thousands of dollars to a distant place sight unseen? Personally, for such an important purchase, I would feel more confident going to a local, certified Jeweler who has a BBB rating, a business license locally, offers free cleaning and sizing for ten years, offers upgrade options for next ten years, has been in business at least 5 years, has a diamond association retailer certificate on the wall, is an actual Jeweler and who has no problem with me getting a price comparison.Answer by Bubbles
Really depends but blueniles prices are SET so it doesn’t hurt to go to a jewelry store and see if they can do better. Also stay away from Mall or Brand name stores- you want local family owned jewelry stores. They will work harder for your biz.Answer by Peter Griffin
I’m not familiar with BlueNile, but as someone that has purchased a fair number of fine jewelry items (including rings) for the gals, I want to recommend another option.
My suggestion would be to purchase from the fine jewelry dept at a nice department store, such as Nordstrom, Macy’s or what other choices are available near you. The quality is better than you’ll find at your typical “mall” jeweler, the staff is more professional, and you aren’t likely to get screwed. Such stores have excellent sales with discounts sometimes exceeding 40% on fine stones. If you have a problem with an online jeweler or mall jeweler, good luck; they have lousy return policies for a reason.
Answer by ladyelleiThe bet deal I found was at ShaneCo.com. Blue Nile is not bad.Answer by sydney486
i would go to a store. Pictures online don’t always look like the real thing. You should buy it in a store so you can see it on you before you make a purchaseAnswer by kashmirkat7777Answer by kittenkatt79
If I were to buy a diamond and ring online, BlueNile is probably not a site that I would choose. They have a huge selection of diamonds, but they don’t have pictures of their diamonds. I would likely never buy a diamond site unseen. I have also heard BlueNile’s customer service leaves something to be desired.
My online vendor choices are GoodOldGold.com, Whiteflash.com, and JamesAllen.com. All of those vendors provide pictures and analysis of their diamonds and their customer service is excellent. You can feel free to call each company and ask for in depth information about the diamonds/settings you are interested in. JamesAllen.com is in the same price range as BlueNile, while Whiteflash and Good Old Gold are slightly more expensive (but with better benefits, upgrade policies, and customer service). All of these vendors will be less expensive than most local stores, especially when you consider that you likely won’t be paying tax through an internet vendor.
If you buy locally, I would recommend that you find a reputable independant jeweler rather than a mall/chain jewelry store. Make sure your local jeweler sells GIA and/or AGS certified stones. Never ever buy an uncertified diamond. If they pressure you or make you feel uncomfortable in any way, run! Also, make sure your local jeweler does all work on-site. Many bad jewelers and mall stores send settings and stones out of state to be worked on – not good. A good jeweler will have all the equipment and experts on hand to work on your jewelry inside the store and complete their work within a few hours to a 1 or 2 at most.
Answer by HEATHERJewelry stores are a RIP-OFF!! I worked at one, and there’s a 400%-600% markup on EVERYTHING. I think the best way to buy a diamond is first to educate YOURSELF –(don’t let some clown at a store try to tell you what’s good and what’s not) on what makes a good diamond.
Then decide which imperfections mean slightly less to you as the buyer. Most slight imperfections are not seen by the naked eye, and can save you some cash. It’s always best to know what you’re willing to spend too.
If there are any diamond importers where you live, they are your best option. They will usually help you understand what you’re looking at, but it’s best if you have a grasp of diamond quality before you see anyone. Direct diamond importers usually have the biggest selection of all different grades of diamonds, and they usually don’t even stock any garbage that nobody should be buying–like you’ll find at a chain jewelry store. Good Luck!Answer by 4REEE
I would rather see the diamond in person and return it if I don’t like it.
I went with Diamond Brokers of Florida (DBOF). I compiled all the stats that I wanted on the diamond and e-mailed Jan at DBOF. She came back with a couple of possibilities.
She sent me all the information that I wanted: Isee2 analysis, GEMEX report, hearts and arrows picture, copy of the AGS certificate, and 3 color photos of the diamond. I finally narrowed it down to one diamond.
I put a down payment on the diamond. They shipped it to an independent appraiser of my choice along with the AGS certificate.
I paid the appraiser a small fortune to appraise the diamond and verify it against the AGS certificate. Everything was good.
The diamond? OMG! It was drop dead beautiful. I sent the diamond back and had Brad at DBOF set it for my then fiancee in a solitaire.
I got the completed ring shipped back to the appraiser. Had it reappraised. Everything was perfect!

Whatever you do, make sure the diamond is verified against the GIA or AGS document. I don’t really like EGL stuff.
As for your question about Blue Nile. They didn’t have pictures, but their database was a joy to use.
Local shops wanted too much and didn’t have what I wanted.

I am diamond certified and have worked in the industry and my diamond engagment ring came from bluenile. Yes, the prices are better than anything you will find in the store. So is the selection. The online markup is 15 percent, in stores its 200-400 percent and those are the big sales. All the diamonds are certified, suggest sticking with GIA. I have found https://www.adiamor.com
to have slightly better prices but have not purchased from them, I also like https://www.brilliance.com
also haven’t purchased from them. As far as buying a GIA diamond you have all the specs, and can view the GIA certificate including the plotting of inclusions. And, the customer service will make suggestions and talk to you about what you want, they want you to be happy with the purchase so you don’t return it and so you give them good word of mouth advertising. My diamond appraised for nearly twice what I paid. You need to know what it is you want, and how to determine what grade you want all the specs to be. There is no need to view the diamond in person when you have all the specs, and pictures can be deceiving so a sample picture serves its purpose. I will be more than happy to help you select the perfect diamond for you or to give you my feedback on any that you are thinking about.
As far as the purchase, its bankwired, so you have a papertrail, just as they do with the tracking on the package.
Yes go to local stores to look at what it is you want, and then purchase from here or another reputable site. However you will not find the high quality color, clarity, cut, table, depth, symmetry, polish, fluorescence, culet, girdle all in one stone.
When going local, I have found Jared’s to carry the best selection of jewelery chains. However, Jared’s wanted 8000 dollars for a H/VS2 1.02 ct emerald shape diamond with a good cut only, the length to width ratio was off (for the emerald it should be 1.30-1.40) and the girdle was off thin to very thick, the cut was fair, depth was way too deep 70 percent and measurements were 7.02×4.85×3.43.
What i bought was 4000, 6.77×5.02×2.92 very good cut, E/VVS2 .89ct, table 68 depth 59 excellent polish/symmetry, no fluorescence, girdle medium
Answer by jellybeancounterBuying online is a great idea, as long as you buy from a reputable company and you know what you’re buying. Educating yourself about diamonds is useful regardless of where you buy them from. You’re more likely to get a better deal online than in-store.
My husband nearly bought my ring from blue nile but wound up buying it from uniondiamond.com. He had no problems with them, and they even price matched.
Answer by CodlerEach is ok , From the website very easy,You just need to choose the style the color you like, without a girl beside , “Yeah , with it ,you are more beautiful.”
this web I think is OK, I bought a ring , I
didn’t like the color , and changed for another one , the service is very good .Answer by Cancy
Buying jewelry online is more convenient, i think.
I think you can have a look at this site:
nice ring necklace or other fashion jewelry or accessories are
available on this site.
Good quality but not expensive.
Hope you will find your favorite.
I think this depends very much on your comfort and trust.
Also depends on the situation.
Going to the store, you can see by your own and also verify the design quality etc. So you will be more sure I guess.
On the other hand you can buy online, if you are sure of the design (may be a chosen one) and are sure about the quality and all. Also if you are getting some good deal on the website, then you can consider that.

Well… I have gotten a few rings from a jewelry store such as Kay’s, and long story short, its a rip off. I would stick to smaller, family owned stores in your area. If that’s what you choose anyways 🙂
I would highly recommend blue nile, yes the downfall is you cannot see the diamond before you purchase, but you can(as you probably already know if you looked at the site) pick out the diamond you want, with the right price, cut, clarity, color and size, along with whatever band you choose. It is GIA certified, which you will be paying big bucks at a jewelry store. My fiance got my ring from Blue Nile and he said the experience was great, and my ring is GORGEOUS, i feel like a princess 🙂 Its a 1 carat in platinum, VS2 and H in color(good diamond) and he only paid $ 4,000. We just got it appraised a few days ago and its worth $ 6,500, they said its a very good cut, and stone 🙂 I couldn’t be happier! Everybody else I know says they are very pleased with Blue Nile.
Good luck! 🙂
