M B: Is an “establishment credit card” bad?
After college (which left me with bad credit) I opened up a credit card that the company calls an “establishment” card. I have no rewards or cash back and a medium interest rate. Over the years my credit has shot up and I’m doing great – but the credit card company wont upgrade my credit card to a regular card. Does the fact that it was an “establishment” account show up on my credit score? Should I close this line of credit and apply for a new card with rewards etc.. ?

If your credit limit is increasing I dont see anything wrong with that and any other financial institution will see that you have handled your card well. Since you have no rewards or any incentives to use the card call them and tell them you might cancel they might give you something better
No there’s no validation of an ‘establishment’ card (aka secured card) vs. a regular (aka unsecured card).
Do NOT close this card…if you no longer intend to use it just cut up the card but you definetly want that good re-payment history to stay with you..so again do NOT close it.
You can definetly apply for cards with other companies.
