Basically in short you probably upgraded your internet to a newer version and somehow that new version got deleted. Microsoft makes it hard for you to go back to an older version of something so your best bet would to either download and use a different browser (Safari or Google Chrome are best) and if you can’t even get to the internet to download another browser you have two simple options without doing a lot of technical stuff. Go to The windows menu and find Windows Update (either search for it on Vista or 7 or it is somewhere in programs folder or Control Panel on XP) Anyways once your in Windows Update click check fro updates and it should appear with an update for your internet explorer download it and you’ll be good to go. OR you can install IE from your disc that came with your computer. One more thing you may have just misplaced the new version of internet so if you can find it on your computer somewhere either by search or just go to the explorer window and type in internet and see if more than one pops up and choose the new one. Did you delete it accidentally?
Best of luck to you I know my answer was kind of scattered but I hope it helped anyways
Answer by sewrobbThe reason you get that message is because you already have IE 8 and it has been updated by routine updates from Microsoft. Therefore it is a later version than the original.
The way to get round that problem is to go into ► Control Panel ► Internet Options ► Advanced ► At the bottom ot the page you will see a “Reset” button for IE ► Click on that and it will reinstall and repair IE 8.
Don’t forget to back off your Favourites or you will lose them because it will be the same as when you first got IE 8.
