Sea: I am looking for suggestions of how to best create a recipe “box” on my computer.?
I have literally hundreds of hand written recipes and am looking to organize them by copying (typing not a scan) them into my computer. Is there a good way of doing this that will be easy to read, basically look like a recipe from a cookbook, or a hand written recipe? I would love to have it this way so that I could easily print a copy, if desired, of the recipe. I am adding this to the cooking section in the hope one of you has done this and has a great idea. Thanks for your help folks.

Why don’t you just organize what you already have rather than type them all in the computer again. Buy a 3 ring binder and some clear protector sheets with tabs on the end so you can sort and label them. Then put them behind the protective sheets and you can use both sides, one for 1 recipe and the other side for another. I have done this with all my recipes and it works great and the notebook stands up when you need to look at your recipe while actually cooking it and the page protector protects it from splashes and easily wipes off.
If you really want to put them on the PC, you can type them up in excel and use the tabs at the bottom to organize in one excel book. =) There may be a program out there that you can download or put on your pc that actually will help you organize.

I have put all of my recipes into WORD format. A standardize heading size and font make recipes easy to read. Then, I put all the recipes (on the computer) into categorized folders labeled with headings like “Beef”, “Poultry”, “Desserts” etc., and put all of the folders into a master folder called “Recipes”, which I leave on my desktop for easy access.
I also print the recipes (one per page) and put them into a three-ring binder, then when I am cooking I take out the page I am using and put it up on a magnetic board on one of my cabinets. That way the recipe is easily readable, out of the way, and doesn’t get damaged by moisture because I never have to touch it while I am cooking. I use a 16 pt. font for the recipe itself so it is easier to see.
