Cari C: Can my husband be fired for getting drunk and belligerent at a work event?
My husband attended an after hours off site work function and regrettably got drunk and belligerent. This is a California ‘At Will’ employer. Can he be legally fired?

Whenever you go to a ‘work event’ you need to be on the same behaviour as you are at work.

“At Will” good luck fighting that. That means he can be fired for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING as long as it is not a “protected class”. And yes, even thought it was after hours/off site you are considered to be representing the company. There for yes.

When you are an at-will employee, you can be fired for any reason or no reason at all.

‘At Will’ means they don’t even have to have a reason. Yes, anyone who doesn’t know that your behavior counts at a company function, will soon find out the hard way.
