optimus: How to set up a dialup networking for my antique laptop?
Okay, here’s another really dumb question. I’ve been stockpiling ancient computers (just refound my 2nd one) and it has a built-in phone jack (I’m assuming a modem too) but Windows refuses to recognize it.
How do I jump straight into dialup networking properties? Probably something to download and install, and I know I’ve gotten lucky with it before. I just can’t remember where to start.

To recognize the hard ware, use fresh diagonise, a free tool that can recognize all the devices on your laptop. Once the devise is known, just try to install the drivers for it. Probably if its an old laptop, it might have the realtek 81XX series chip set.
