David: How to pack a guitar for the best protection with a hard case only when traveling?
I know putting the whole case in a guitar box works the best, but wouldn’t it cost to check in a guitar box? I mean, isn’t it too big to be counted as a free luggage? So, how can I pack a guitar with only the hard case for the best protection? What can I do to the exterior of the case? Also, if I were to bring the guitar on board, is it okay to do that with the guitar in a hard case?

You might consider UPS ing it. Over night kind of. Air port luggage can be a bit harsh on things..
With a few exceptions, you can’t bring a guitar on board. When you make your reservation, find out what the airline’s policy is for carrying guitars on board and what type of carrier the airline uses.
Here’s a site with packing tips:
If perchance your guitar can make it through the teeny hole in the security scanner, and your airline doesn’t allow it on the plane, have it gate checked. It stands a better chance of survival that way, as it will be the last thing on the plane and the first thing off.
