Raksha S: How to appeal for removal of exclusions in a pet policy without any basis?
Hello pet lovers please help i have been robbed by the day-light pet insurance robbers. My pet insurance added a lot of exclusions to casper’s policy.Without any basis to do so . They read some half baked doctor notes and decided casper has all these pre-conditions they cooked up from the half baked notes they read. Based on which they rejected a 1500$ claim . Other dog owners who have fought the battle please help one more casualty to win over the enemy.

That’s why I don’t think pet insurance is a good idea. It’s much more reliable to set up a savings account specifically for pet emergencies. I can’t tell you how many stories I’ve heard of insurance companies denying claims based on circumstances like yours.
Give them hell until you get covered. Ask your vet to help you.
Answer by JA12This is a battle you will never win.
Insurance companies exist to make a profit. This is one way they ensure that they don’t have to pay out on any claims (or as few as they can get away with).
Answer by Gina GI would get in touch with Consumer Affairs, and the Better Business Bureau, they may be able to offer some suggestions-or even take a complaint. Also, send a letter to them, certified mail-make copies for your records. State that as long as your dog did not have this problem prior to the insurance, it is not pre-existing. Tell them you want to be reimbursed or have the vet paid-now, or you are making a complaint. There is usually a 14 day wait after obtaining insurance-then the dog is fully covered. It is pre-existing if the dog had it before the policy was effective. Also, if the company didn’t say that they won’t cover a certain condition due to the breed being prone to developing it-it should help. Find out what conditions are known for your dog breed. Sometimes, insurance companies put something in the fine print, stating that certain conditions for that breed are not covered. But they should state it clearly.Answer by joeinchino2000
I think the exceptions need to be laid out before the policy is signed. Where did they get the “half baked” doctors notes that described these pre-existing conditions? If they have files from vets describing things that he has had treated before, then you may be out of luck. If you dont recognize the things they are talking about I would ask them for copies of the doctors notes so that you can follow up.
Unfortunately, pet insurance is relatively new and I dont hink alot of people know what their rights are. I would also pull the original paperwork you signed when you got it as if there are no exclusions there you might have grounds for a lawsuit to get all of your premiums back.
Answer by GreyhoundAdopterAn Insurance company can’t “add” exclusions after the policy is issued. The preexisting medical exclusions are set at the time the policy is issued.
Did you not read what the terms of the policy were before you purchased it? Most companies have exclusions for preexisting conditions.
If your vet informed the insurance company that your pet had been treated for this condition in the past (as you are saying) – that makes it a preexisting condition — and is excluded from coverage by the terms of the policy.
Health insurance must be purchased when an animal is healthy to be of any value to the owner. If you wait until you have a problem with your pet, these things are uninsurable.
It’s like waiting until your house is on fire to run to an insurance company and insure your house …. then you expect them to pay for it.
