rish: How much would polishing an existing concrete floor cost?
I am fixing up a house i inherited. It is a 900 sq foot house that has concrete floors with a really bad linoleum tile job. All the floors in the house need to be fixed. I am wondering how much it would be to have a professional come in and polish and tint the concrete floors (they are in good condition). Also if there are other solutions or ideas for flooring types i am open to suggestions. I am looking for the cheapest way (including material and labor)to fix the floors through out the house. I had thought about vinyl or linoleum but have heard it is not the best for kitchens or bathrooms. I know a lot depends on the dimensions of the rooms but am just looking for a rough estimate. Thank you for your help!
its not a wood framed house, its an old house made out of stone and concrete, and yes the floor is concrete slabs. I know this because of the hassle it is causing to move the locations of the plumbing.

I would really doubt you have concrete floors in an ordinary wood frame house. What you may be seeing is the underlayment to the linoleum that is a sheet of concrete similar to a sheet of plywood. It is not meant to be used as a floor on its own, but provide a level base for your tile and something to stick to.
You will have to retile or tear up the whole floor and start over.
Polishing concrete is like polishing marble but easir but wont be cheap. Vinyl / linoleum flooring should be the cheapest. Don`t do linoleum / vinyl tile. Do 6 or 12 foot rolls it will be ok in the kitchen and bathroon don`t buy a heavy textured flooring it will collect the dirt. I hope this helped.Answer by Wingman
Rish, as to your flooring project, get estimates, and a lot of them, form local flooring contractors. The rule of thumb is to get at least three.
To your advantage, there are plenty of local flooring contractors who are just eager to give free estimates with no obligation, and taking advantage of this is the consumer-smart way to go about finding an accurate answer to your question; they can even give you other flooring ideas, considering floor products that are locally available in your area.. It’s important that you get a local estimate and not rely on guesses found here on Yah, as a lot of factors really bear on the cost of such a project, including the following: The cost of material and labor greatly varies by location.
To help you out, here is a great link to a handyman site that offers free very resourceful information to assist you in your project, and, of course, find a local flooring contractor in an effort to get a good deal:
