Im 18 and moving to another state and plan to live in a motel for a while. I have little more then $ 500 saved and with a job how much will living in a low cost motel cost me? what is the average price?

Motel 6 right now is about 250 bucks a week. Good luck with that. That’s 1000 a month and it’s not very nice.

Get a studio apartment. Are you crazy. Talk it over with your parents.

why dont you stay at home till you havea bit more saved.. so you can offer to buy your self a bed (in a rented apartment, flat or unit or whatever)

you say you;re moving to another state – and that you have a job?
will you be keeping your job interstate?

i think you should hang in there, till you havea little more saved, and while still at home, looki for a good and cheap accommodation and a job in the state where you plan to move to.

the cheapest and in a safe and comfortable area is probably between $ 50-$ 80 per night. your best bet is to find an apt with a move-in special so you an take your $ 500 and make it stretch farther than one week in a hotel. look in the phone book for temporary living (budget suites, etc.): those usually cost between $ 250-$ 400 per week.

it totally depends where you live. cities are more expensive than rural areas and cities like New York are more expensive than, say, Boise.

i’d say the best deal you could get would be between 20 and 30 dollars a night. but if you go around to different motels, you can probably work out a deal for a long-term situation.

a studio apartment is probably 900 dollars a month in New york city but anywhere else, they’d probably be 600 or less a month. if you’re somewhere rural, they’d probably be 400 or less. Your best bet would probably be to use that 500 as a deposit on the apartment. those cheap motels are usually in scary areas of town anyways.

Depends. There are places who will rent by the week and month, which will bring down your rate per day. In any case, it all depends on what sort of hotel you plan on staying at. The Hilton’s going to set you back fat cash, but a privately owned roach motel will cost a lot less. Try to find something in between. Remember that your safety is really important so don’t get the cheapest place in town if it means your neighbors are crack heads and prostitutes!

Save up a LOT more than $ 500, too. That’s not going to last you a month which means you’ll e desperate for cash in no time. That means you’ll be vulnerable to doing whatever it takes to make a few dollars, such as hustling or becoming the prostitute I mentioned above.

I know I sound all dramatic, but it’s true. Save up a LOT of cash right now, before you leave!

I work at super 8 and it $ 69 during the week and $ 79 during the weekend. I have seen motel 6 for as low as $ 34.99 a night for one person. if you stay at place that only charges $ 30 a night you are looking at $ 900 a month plus tax. it is probably cheaper to get an apartment. good luck on the move

Yeah, I bet living in a motel for awhile seems like a great temporary fix, but it’s going to put you out quite a bit of money. I would strongly advise not living in a motel for longer than two nights if possible.

I suggest planning this out more: Find a few potential roommates in the area you’re planning on moving to. Perhaps someone is renting a room–chances are it will be much much much cheaper than staying a motel. (Motels are usually no less than 40.00 a night–you stay there a month and thats over 1000.00!!!!)

Renting a room from someone will likely be no more than 400-500, and that’s coming from what I’m used to in the California Bay Area where rent is extremely high.

Any respectable motel won’t allow you to LIVE in their facility. There are places that offer weekly rates, but they are nowhere near your price range. I’ve seen them in 3 different states that I’ve been to recently and they advertise around $ 160 – $ 250 a week. Some are even more than that. You could get a drug-dealing, prostitute hotel room for pretty cheap, but do you really want to put yourself in that situation?

If you can’t stay with your parents, ask a friend or other relative if you can stay with them for awhile until you can save a bit more money. Otherwise, an apartment would be a much better choice. You could get a roommate to help pay the rent, but that can get real sticky real fast.

Besides…. if you spend all that $ 500 on your hotel accomadations, what are you going to do about food and transportation and other expenses? It will be awhile before you get your first paycheck from your new job. I hope you have a plan for all of that as well.

I had a great 2 bedroom apartment for $ 475/month when I first got married. The studio apartments were only $ 250/month. (This was in Kansas) Seriously, you’ll want to look into something like that rather than a motel room. You can move-in rather quickly once you are approved for the apartment.

Hey bud,

Is it essential to move away? Do you have a job set up where you plan to go? Do you have a reliable car? 500 bucks won’t even last a month. If you must move out and are set on the hotel idea, try one of the efficiency motels that are for long term people. Some of them are like 150 a week and aren’t bad.

I advise staying home, moving in with friends, renting with friends, but wow, not just moving without a plan.
