Thanks all for being patient with me, I just have so many questions and decisions to make.
But how much does a horse “motel” generally charge per night?

Our barn charges $ 20 a night, and you supply feed, we do bedding and water.
When I have traveled with my horses, I arrange ahead of time from a horse travel website (used to be a book) or I call Pony Clubs along the way and get places from them. If I am passing a town with a racetrack, I stay at one of the training barns near the track; those are either the best, or the worst, but there is always another one nearby if you hate the first one you try.
