In today’s society we have all this paper work and stuff that go along with marriage, why? What did God say it means to be married? How does the ceremony go?

The Bible doesn’t directly say how the ceremony should go.
But it does say that you can’t have sex with your loved one before marriage, because sex is a very intimate, holy thing that you shouldn’t start until you’ve made the commitment. Marriage is about sealing the bond; making a commitment to your loved one. Without that commitment, it’s easy for the other to walk away any times he wants.

You don’t really need a ceremony or anything like that, those are just traditions. The only thing you need is to chose the person you wish to spend the rest of your life with for better or worst, not until you get tired of each other. That means commitment which is why we have to sign documents, that is the way we humans understand “sealing the deal”.Answer by Roger
Way back when it was pretty simple. Once a man and a woman decided they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, the man would go to the woman’s father and ask permission to marry his daughter. If he agreed, they were considered married at that very moment. This was a contractual obligation. The ceremony was secondary. The ceremony was witnessed by friends and family and recorded in the family bible. There was no marriage license because the state was never involved in marriages.Answer by seeker of jehovah
because the government demands it
the two unite together to become one dedicated to each other under marriage
KJV: Matthew Chapter 19

The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
[4] And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
[5] And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
[6] Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
it depends on which denomination you get married under how the ceremony goes
Answer by babylove3211232002It is less “paper work” to get married then to buy a house or a car for that matter. Yet way more serious to give your life, family and body to another human being. It is in the Bible to exchange vows and honor the covernment. Jesus performed His first miracle at a wedding. It is the foundation for a stable family. Each society’s ceremony differs according to tradition.
