I know empirical probability is the ratio of the number of favorable outcomes to the total number of trials. I want to know how crime scene technicians use or relate to this term.

You walk into a crime scene and find a man alone in an apartment with a gun shot wound to the head. A gun is in the victim’s hand. Traces of cocaine are found on the kitchen table.
Is it likely to be suicide?
What’s the likelihood that a family member committed murder?
What’s the likelihood that this is drug related?
Should you try to clear the wife and older sons first?
What have similar scenes that have been investigated suggested?
If there is some blood at the scene that is Type O- and the victims blood is Type A and the wife’s blood type is O-, what does this suggest?
Some of the evidence may suggest possibilities, but you cannot make air-tight conclusions at this point. However, you can prioritize your actions in accordance with the greatest likelihood.
