sweeper: How is chemistry related to Light bulb?
I have a project and i need to explain in 3-5 sentences that how is chemistry related to light bulb?
I gave a thumb up to everyone who answered so thanks, i liked every single answer so its hard to decide which one is the best so i will have to let the people decide that.

The voltage difference in the battery creates an electric field which exerts a force on the electrons in the wire connecting it in a circuit to the light bulb. The electrons create friction and heat as they move through the wire bumping into each other, so when they go through the filament, the light bulb glows. I can’t remember the chemistry of the battery, but you could probalby find it somewhere. Try links from wikipedia.
A light bulb has certain chemicals that are found in lightining bugs inside the bulbs.Answer by science teacher
The filament in n incandescent bulb is tungsten (W). Edison tried about 500 materials trying to find one that would glow.
Incandescent bulbs are about 40% efficient, they make 60% heat.
The gas inside a light bulb is argon ,Ar, an inert or noble gas that does not react, so the filament can keep on glowing.
The fluorescent bulb is filled with mercury(Hg) vapor. When a current is sent through it it gives off ultraviolet light. The inside of the bulb is painted with a fluorescent material that glows when it is hit with ultraviolet light. These are more efficient and cooler.
The newer halogen bulbs get very hot.
xenon, Xe, is used in strobe lights.
Neon, Ne, glows red-orange when electricity excites it.
Other bulbs called neon lights contain another gas if they are any other color.
chemistry is related with light bulb with the use of vapours of Sodium ,Mercury, besides the noble gases, like Neon,Argon, these elements emit raditions of different frequencies when current is passed through this tubes,,the colour so obtained in a discharge tube depends upon,
1. nature of gas or vapour mixed with neon.
2.the type of glass used in the preparation of discharge tube.
Mixture Nature of glass Observed colour
Neon colourless orange red
Neon+argon+Hg colourless light blue
Neon+Argon+Hg Green light green
Neon+Argon+Hg purple Dark blueAnswer by parisa

The inside of a fluorescent tube is coated with a white material made up of phosphors. If you bombard phosphors with ultraviolet light, they re-emit visible light. In normal operation, the fluorescent tube is connected to a source of electrical current. The current supplies electrons that slam around inside the tube. Inside the tube there is also mercury vapor. When electrons collide with the mercury vapor, they cause the vapor to emit ultraviolet light, which hits the phosphors and the tube lights up.
