How important is it to “dress to impress”?

Girl: How important is it to “dress to impress”?
I’m going to a job fair tomorrow and I need to “dress to impress”. I don’t own any formal or dressy clothes to wear. Does your outfit really matter when employers look at you?

I’m planning to wear a navy half-sleeve dresshirt/blouse with black pants. (They’re tight-ish yoga pants). My outfit looks pretty casual to me so i’m not sure if i’ll give off a bad impression?

yes. i always dress to impress even if its to casual things. everyone should always wear nice clothes

What you look like is a major factor to a first impression,and first impressions are VERY important.
As soon as a stranger looks at you,he almost automatically judges you,takes his/her conclusions and will think the same of you for a long time until he/she gets to know you better.

Now,if you’re going to a job fair then wear whatever you feel comfortable with if you don’t care about what others think of you. If you do care and need other’s opinions a lot then wear what you think others would like,to know that,ask opinions from several people.
