paulybauly: How does your bike fair during the winter?
I’m preparing to get myself a Ninja 650 or something very similar. The bike will be my only mode of transportation during college and I’d like to know how everyone’s bike fairs year round. Please give your bike and any problems specific the the season. Thanks
My primary location will be the west coast for college, and the coast is generally the same all around, but I’ve heard of some bikes being horrible in just slightly colder weather.

As long as you’re careful and dress appropriately you should be okay. Just remember that this isn’t a car, so you don’t have four wheels that won’t tip over when you start sliding.
Some different tires would also help with the traction during inclement weather.
I’ve got two bikes, a Yamaha SR250 beater and a custom chopper. I ride the Yamaha in the winter but I’ve also put all-terrain tires on it for some extra grip.
Where are you?

Riding was no problem, but cranking a 1949 Harley Panhead is!!! My turbo heater, pointed at the engine for about 10 minutes, does the trick. It’s kick only! Having a starter will make it no problem. Black ice is a killer. Also remember that drivers on the road often are visually impared because of the cold weather. Be extra careful! Study the effects of hypothermia, and understand the wind chill effects. They are considerable, and extremely dangerous.
