Is it possible to wait till July before notifying an American college that I’ll be attending it? I’ve applied to a few colleges in the U.S., but a college in India is my first choice; the problem is that I won’t know if I’ve been accepted there until July. If I accept an American college admission offer now, how can I back out if I later decide to attend the Indian college instead? What would be the consequences, if any, of doing so? Are there any American colleges that allow applicants to make up their minds about accepting the offer in July?

In the US,
Once you are accepted they will send you info. You will have to send in a deposit for tuition-your acceptance that you will be attending that school. There will be a deadline date, and most are May 1st. You will have to send in a deposit for housing too-with a deadline date.
Worst cast – you will loose your deposits.
